The overall narrative is rather forgettable, but the minute-to-minute writing is generally solid. ![]() The story does not take itself all that seriously, and while the humor is hit-and-miss, the spin-off is more consistently charming than some of the franchise's recent main entries. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands has awesome gunplay, comfortably the best in the series so far. Set within the world of a tabletop game, players create a character and then go on a comical adventure to stop the Dragon Lord. The first entry to debut directly on the PS5, Tiny Tina's Wonderlandsis a spin-off that builds upon the ideas of Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, a Borderlands 2 DLC. Gearbox's Borderlands has been delivering fun co-op first-person shooter mayhem for over a decade, and all the entries are a blast in their own right. The gameplay might be hit-and-miss, but Dark Alliance's narrative could satisfy die-heart D&D fans who are interested in the lore side of things. Salvatore's The Legend of Drizzt, specifically The Icewind Dale Trilogy, the RPG reflects the source material's strong character writing and epic sense of scale. The RPG also launched with a number of technical issues, which certainly did not help enhance its reputation.įor all of its flaws, Dark Alliance does deliver the goods in the story department. While the former has some neat ideas that could have allowed it to be a fun co-op experience, it is not as well-balanced as it could have been. The combat and loot systems garnered quite a bit of criticism. Dark Alliance garnered a fairly tepid reception upon launch, and less than two years later and the game is basically dead on Steam. ![]() Most years seem to produce new D&D games, and such frequent output unsurprisingly translates into inconsistent projects. Hopefully, upcoming titles like Minecraft Legends, Diablo 4, and Baldur's Gate 3 will change that. While hardly bad, there are not all that many projects natively available on the hardware that offer deep story-driven co-op experiences. That said, the console still has a ways to go before it fully hits its stride, and that is reflected in the PS5's co-op games selection. There are plenty of great co-op games players can run on their PS5s and play with friends locally, or through the internet. The system's backward compatibility alone grants players access to some of their favorite titles with a serious graphical boost. In the meantime, there are already plenty of amazing games to play. The PS5 is moving along nicely, and 2023 could prove to be the generation's breakout year. ![]()
